A Sri Lankan education group opens its first overseas campus - a small, standalone and low-cost primary school for children aged six to nine.

Leeds International School opened its doors to students aged six to nine years in August 2021, offering an 'affordable' education with annual fees of less than $20,000.

Located in Bukit Timah, Leeds International School is a standalone primary school offering a British education for Primary 1-3. It is owned by the Sri Lankan education group, Leeds International Schools, which educates more than 4,000 students in 11 private schools across Sri Lanka. The Singapore campus is the group's first school overseas.

Leeds International School enters Singapore's education market as a low-cost school with annual fees of $15,000. It offers more of a 'no-frills' education compared to many of the state-of-the-art campuses in Singapore, and will be targeting families looking for an affordable English-taught, well-rounded primary years curriculum.

The school opened alongside two other new schools including Knightsbridge House International School (KBH) and OWIS Suntec.

Leeds International School CEO Sanjeev Kumar says:

"Our goal is not to imitate or compete with the large international schools in the Singapore. Our aim is to be different and in doing so to offer more choice to parents and their children."

Curriculum

Leeds will follow an English rather than the Sri Lankan curriculum offered at its other schools. The three-year curriculum covers English, Maths, science, languages (French/Hindi) and ICT, as well as music, art and craft, and PE. Co-curricular activities include Junior Chef, Origami and Just Dance.

The academic year runs from August to June, and there are four terms.

Campus and facilities

Leeds is centrally located in Bukit Timah. It has a small, basic campus with facilities including six classrooms, multi-purpose hall, and an activity room; students will travel off-campus to use facilities including a swimming pool, climbing wall, and play areas for basketball and other sports.

Admission and fees

This is a non-selective school and admission is open to students of all nationalities with visas including Dependent Pass Holders, Student Pass holders and Permanent Residents.

Annual fees are $15,408, payable in six instalments.
